The 'Twin Cities' of Minneapolis and St. Paul sit on the banks of the Mississippi river in the eastern part of Minnesota, more than 400 miles northeast of Chicago.
The downtown area of both Minneapolis and St. Paul is relatively compact and has an extensive system of heated skyway passages that connect major office buildings, hotels and retail stores together. The system makes the cities a nice place to visit even during the coldest days of winter.
With over a million people living in the twin cities area, and with the rest of the nation hours away, Minneapolis and St. Paul have grown their own cultural scene.
There is great theatre in Minneapolis, including the oldest continuously running theater, the largest dinner theater and the largest regional playhouse in the country. There are numerous sporting events in Minneapolis. There are many restaurants, clubs and active nightlife. And there is 'the mall'.
South of downtown, near the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport, the Mall of America is one of the most popular destinations in Minneapolis. Being the largest in the US, the Mall of America is an indoor entertainment complex, complete with its own amusement park.
